Useful resources for perimenopause and menopause

With a plethora of information available on the web, it is often overwhelming to find the right information. Having read and researched the subject extensively below are my recommended reading materials and resources.

These books aim to empower women with knowledge about menopause, offering strategies for managing symptoms and maintaining overall health during this transitional period.   

  • “How to Menopause” by Emmy Award winning journalist, Tamsen Fadal (2025) 

    Tamsen Fadal is an Emmy Award winning journalist, documentary filmmaker, and menopause advocate born on December 4, 1970, in Concord, Massachusetts. She is the author of the upcoming book "How To Menopause" (March 2025) and co-producer of the PBS documentary "The M Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause".

  • "It's The Menopause" by Kaz Cooke (2023) 

    Kaz Cooke is an award-winning Australian author known for her practical, humorous guides for women. She wrote "It's The Menopause" after surveying nearly 9,000 women, revealing the diverse challenges of perimenopause. Her goal was to provide evidence-based, supportive information that empowers women to navigate menopause with confidence and humour.

  • "The M Word: How to Thrive in Menopause" is a bestselling handbook by Dr. Ginni Mansberg (2020, revised 2024)  

    Dr. Mansberg, a well-known Australian TV GP and healthcare professional, brings her expertise and humour to demystify menopause, helping women make informed choices about their health. The book has received endorsements from notable figures like Mia Freedman, who calls it "a must-read for every woman over 40" and "life changing”.

  • "The Menopause Brain" by Lisa Mosconi (2024)

Her book "The Menopause Brain" explores how menopause affects cognitive function and offers strategies to support brain health during this transition.

There are some fantastic podcasts on perimenopause and menopause, packed with insights, advice and knowledge around the subject:

    Hosted by Sydneysider Sonya Lovell, this long-standing weekly show features discussions with women's health experts and everyday women about their menopause experiences. It provides supportive information on the menopausal transition and empowers women to navigate this important life stage with confidence.  

  • The Dr Louise Newson Podcast:

    This podcast features UK menopause expert Dr. Louise Newson, who provides evidence-based insights on menopause, interviews with specialists, and personal stories to help women navigate their journey.  

  • Thriving in Menopause:

    This podcast from Prevention Australia brings together leading health experts to share practical tips on managing menopausal symptoms, including hot flushes, mood swings, and weight changes. It focuses on making midlife easier for women. 

  • Hello Menopause

    Co-hosted by Christine Maginnis, co-founder of the nonprofit organization Let's Talk Menopause, and comedian Robin Gelfenbien. This engaging podcast aims to create a supportive and relatable environment by sharing real stories from women experiencing menopause. 

  • Black Menopause & Beyond

    Hosted by Anita Powell, this podcast addresses menopause from the perspective of Black women, discussing unique challenges and experiences while providing valuable resources.

There are many websites out there for more information and apps for diagnosis support, here are few I have found to be the most reputable: 

  • Balance App

    Founded by Dr. Louise Newson in the UK, this app offers symptom tracking, educational resources, and community support. It allows users to generate health reports for doctor visits and monitor various aspects of their health, including mood and sleep quality.
