Combining expertise and experience to help women thrive through menopause and perimenopause
Meet Janey
I’m Janey, founder of Peritherapy and a qualified psychotherapist specialising in perimenopause and menopause. Following 25 years’ experience scaling health and education programs and services across the UK and Australia I have decided since my own experience through the menopause transition, to fill a gap in the health system, and support other women through this life stage change.
"In 2021, at 47, my life changed in ways I never expected. Persistent insomnia, joint pain, and overwhelming fatigue disrupted my happy and healthy routine. Despite consulting multiple doctors, the word 'menopause' was rarely mentioned. Like many women, I felt unseen and unsupported during this critical transition. My journey through perimenopause taught me the importance of knowledge, self-advocacy, and compassionate care. Now, as someone who has reclaimed their health through the right support, I am deeply committed to empowering other women to navigate menopause with confidence and ensuring no one feels alone or dismissed in their journey."

How I can help you with my comprehensive therapeutic toolkit for menopause and perimenopause
My integrative approach, combining various therapeutic modalities, allows me to tailor treatment to each client's unique needs. This versatility is crucial in addressing a wide range of mental health concerns effectively and ensures a holistic and effective path to personal growth and wellbeing.
Advanced Clinical Skills
My additional training in Australia broadened my expertise, particularly in psychoanalytic therapy and attachment therapy. This included working alongside psychologists at Bondi Beach Cottage to support new mums with post-natal depression, trauma, anxiety and attachment disorders.
Holistic and Client-Centered Approach
My ability to establish empathic, attuned and authentic therapeutic relationships, focusing on clients' emotional experiences is at the core of my work.
My qualifications include:
Post-graduate Diploma in Integrative Arts Therapy (Institute for Arts and Therapy in Education, London, UK)
Advanced post-graduate Certificate in Counselling Skills (Australian College of Applied Psychology).
My integrative approach draws from diverse therapeutic modalities, including:
-
Attachment Theory
Attachment theory reveals how early life relationships influence emotional responses during menopause, helping therapists understand and support women's psychological transitions. By recognising individual attachment styles, menopause therapy can provide more personalised, empathetic care that addresses both physiological and emotional challenges.
-
Gestalt therapy
Gestalt therapy for menopause emphasises holistic self-awareness, helping women fully experience and integrate the psychological and physical changes of this life transition. By focusing on the present moment and personal perception, this approach supports women in understanding and accepting their menopausal journey with greater emotional resilience.
-
Psychoanalytic therapy
Psychoanalytic theory in menopause therapy delves into unconscious dynamics, revealing how past psychological experiences and unresolved conflicts shape a woman’s perception and emotional response to this life transition. By uncovering deep-seated psychological patterns, this approach helps women transform potential anxiety and loss into opportunities for personal growth and self-understanding.
-
Person Centred Therapy
Person-centred therapy for menopause creates a compassionate, non-judgmental space where women can authentically explore their physical and emotional experiences. By prioritising individual perception and self-understanding, this approach supports women in navigating menopause with greater self-acceptance and personal empowerment.
-
Feminist Therapy
Feminist therapy for menopause challenges the patriarchal notion that a woman's worth is tied to her reproductive function and reframes this life transition as an opportunity for empowerment and self-discovery. This approach emphasises women's autonomy in decision-making, critically examines societal attitudes towards aging women, and promotes a holistic understanding of menopausal experiences that extends beyond medical interventions to include psychological, social, and cultural factors.
-
Art Therapy
Creativity in art therapy for menopause serves as a powerful, non-verbal pathway for women to express complex emotions, process bodily changes, and reduce stress during this transformative life stage. By engaging in creative activities, women can enhance self-awareness, improve emotional regulation, and develop a more empowered perspective on their menopausal journey.

All of which can be used to develop a therapeutic plan that’s exactly right for you.
Senate Inquiry – An advocate for better support in perimenopause and menopause
In June 2024, I was invited to speak at the Senate Inquiry in Sydney. The Senate Inquiry explored the broad impacts of menopause and perimenopause including economic effects like reduced workforce participation and productivity, physical symptoms and poor healthcare access and provision, mental health challenges, including anxiety and depression.
The Senate Inquiry into issues related to perimenopause and menopause in Australia concluded its work with a report tabled on September 18, 2024, with 25 recommendations.
